The International Volunteer Directory is a resource for those considering volunteering abroad.  Volunteering abroad is an increasingly popular activity that can be a rewarding experience, but should not be entered into without much forethought and preparation.  Living in a village in Ghana or Guatemala demands much more of the traveler than a trip to your favorite resort!

This resource is the creation of the staff of ELI Abroad (Experiential Learning International), a non-profit organization specializing in international volunteer programs.  We hope that it will be useful and informative, both for our participants and for anyone considering an international volunteer program.  The site is divided into five categories: About Volunteering, Volunteer Destinations, Before Your Trip, During Your Trip, and After Your Trip.  Each category contains numerous articles on the subject. In addition, there are two blog categories: Volunteer Stories, a collection of stories from volunteers,  and Our Curious World, a collection of offbeat, but informative facts that we have come across.

The volunteer destinations page is limited to ELI Abroad programs, but there are many other possibilities to be found elsewhere on the web.  If you are interested in other options, we suggest GoAbroad.com and Idealist.org. Our own programs are intended for the independent traveler, and are not suited to everyone.
